I'm writing this while watching the boy do dishes from the wonderful meal that he made for me. Yeah, I think it's a little crazy for him to drive 1.5 hrs (2 with the terrible weather) just to make me dinner, watch a movie with me, and then drive the 1.5 hrs back. Luckily, he's willing to do it. And do dishes. That's pretty much every girl's dream, right? I must say, the stuffed pork chops and green beans with almonds, while simple, were quite tasty. My love of food is slowly transferring onto him - muahaha! :)
Moving on past the Valentine's Day hoo-hah, guess what happened last night? My second cake decorating class!!! Now, I again forgot my camera for the actual class, but did remember it this morning to take pictures of the decorated cake. So without further ado, my attempt at royal icing flowers:

We also learned how to make buttercream frosting and royal icing, but I really didn't like her buttercream. I'll have to investigate alternative recipes (know any good ones? please point me in their direction!) since next week we have to bring in our cake pre-frosted with buttercream. The royal icing was quite difficult to work with, but made very pretty flowers. All in all, quite a fun class. I think I'll be signing up for the advanced cake decorating class that starts soon... Can you say obsession?
Happy Valentine's Day!

Your cake looks great! I am looking into Wilton classes as well... so far the first course is only offered in the afternoon - boo!
Those flowers are adorable! I really want to take a cake decorating class eventually, but so far I haven't managed to make time for it. I can't wait to see all the cakes you make in your class!
Very pretty! Are you using the Wilton recipe for the buttercream?
I'm guessing it's a Wilton recipe, since our instructor is Wilton-trained. She actually has a degree from their school in Chicago, and is just doing this until she can start up a patisserie.
Your decorations look so pretty! I've been wanting to take the Wilton classes too. I'm hoping to do it this summer!
I prefer a French style buttercream, it gets hard as it is refrigerated but not dry like the Wilton.
You will find a great recipehere
Awesome! Thanks for the tip - I was looking for a different buttercream, but couldn't find one I liked.
