TWD: Black and White Baby Banana Bundts

Buh buh buh... As much as I like alliteration, this title sort of screws with my lips when I try to say it. That goodness for the "and white" portion, because otherwise I'd be lost! I'm glad I managed to find the time to make these, because I really believed I wouldn't be able to squeeze them in. Actually, thanks go to the poor, lone frozen banana in my apartment. Without you, this recipe would not have gone forth. Let us have a moment of silence for the wonderful frozen banana...

Actually, I had to get these whipped up early on last week, because when TWD posting time comes around, I will have been gone on vacation for 5 days. 5 days! You can bet I'm grinning right now - 4 days of biking, walking, horseback riding, and fudge eating here - what's not to like?

However, I had to make a couple slight tweaks to the recipe, thanks to what I had on hand. I only had 1 frozen banana, so I actually quartered the recipe and ended up with three of the cutest little baby bundt cakes. The swirl thing didn't go on so well, thanks to how small they were. They were more like layered black and white cakes, but you still get the wonderful ribbons of chocolate going through the whole thing. This is definitely one time where I'm not going to complain that Dorie throws chocolate in everything. The other tweak was when I got home and realized that I didn't have bittersweet chocolate. I know! How could I have run out?! I had unsweetened though, so I just melted that up with the butter and a small handful of sugar (seriously, I just reached in, grabbed some, and tossed it in the bowl). The sugar tamed the chocolate a bit, so no worries there.

I'm actually holding off on eating them though, because except for banana bread, I'm not a huge fan of bananas in baked goods. And actually, I'd take zucchini bread over banana bread any day. The boyfriend should like them though, given how much he liked the banana nut muffins I made before for him. Finally, he's useful in helping me get rid of my baked goodies! Thanks have to go to Ashlee of A Year in the Kitchen though, for picking something I can foist off so easily on him! Head on over to her blog for the recipe, and make sure to stop on by all the other lovely TWD'ers to see their takes on this week's recipe!

Last Week: White Nectarine Galette
Next Week: Blueberry Sour Cream Ice Cream

You had that one little bagged banana in your freezer too? Little work-horses aren't they? Hope your living it up out there on that horsey bikey fudgy vacation you're on.

Oh my god, TOO, TOO Funny! I was actually baptized on Mackinac, when my dad was a doctor on the island. I grew up only an hour from there! Enjoy some salt water taffy for me...I always horde the vanilla.

Gorgeous as always!

Those look so adorable!
I used frozen bananas too, though mine tend to be a bit more sinister in their tendancy to suicidally leap out of the freezer to attack guests...

I hope you had fun at Mackinac island! I've never been, but my little brother goes to MI State, and went there on a 'mini' honeymoon last month after his wedding. (They are planning a bigger honeymoon to new zeland in the winter). It sounds like a great place!

Your bundts are fab. I'm confused though, wouldn't 1 banana make 2/3 recipe? Anyway, I'll bet they tasted divine.

Those are great -- they look so miniaturely perfect. I'm not a big fan of bananas either (or any other fruit, really!), but this cake was excellent.

Aww, great baby bundts! The mini bundt has to be one of my favorite pans. I hope your boyfriend loves these and that you guys have an amazing vacation on Mackinac Island! As soon as I read "fudge" I said to myself, has to be Mackinac, has to be Mackinac as I waited for the page to load, and there it was, Greetings from Mackinac! We love that magical little island :)

Andrea said...

Just reread my comment and it almost sounds like I'm saying "greetings from Mackinac" like I live there (now wouldn't that be fun?) but that was just the title of the page you posted, we are about 5 hours from there.

hey, caitie-face. i shall communicate with you via your blog. hope this week is better than the last two. if i could send you my two current concoctions, i would. but, since they're the products of the ice cream maker, i doubt their ability to travel through the mail and arrive intact in wisconsin. apricot sorbet and chocolate sorbet! soon, there will be mint chocolate chip ice cream, made from the mint growing in a pot on the balcony. give me a call when you feel up to it?
