I have to admit something here, come clean, and not hold anything back. It's been stuffed down inside me for the two weeks since Rachel picked and I made these cookies, but I couldn't say anything because those mean nasty TWD peeps would yell at me :)
I
LOVE
THESE
COOKIES
LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE
And it's not just because I eat pounds of malted milk balls every week (I can get them in bulk at my grocery store). Or that I love chocolate more than anything in the world. Oh no, these transcend even those two loves. Transcendent. Yep, that's a wonderful descriptor for these cookies. Chock full of malty goodness, hunks of chocolate, and oh-so-fudgey. Yeah, these are amazing.
In fact, as other TWD'ers probably know, I tend not to try anything that I make. I just bring things into work and get everyone else's feedback. My self-control even extends to the batter bowl - no licks for me! But... umm... well......... these cookies were different. I licked the spatula. Then the bowl. Then I eyed the cookies already portioned out and ready for baking. I swear, I didn't eat any of that batter. On my honor! After baking, I had to try these. I had one that night and one the next day, and they disappeared incredibly quickly from the front desk.
Second confession: I made them again. And kept them all for myself. Luckily, both times was a half-batch, which made me feel less guilty. Sorta. We'll just ignore the 3/4# bag of malted milk balls sitting in my fridge, mkay?
Last Week: Chunky Peanut Butter and Oatmeal Chocolate Chipsters
Next Week: Chocolate Chunkers (dear lord, what isn't in these cookies?)

Great pic and glad you loved these cookies! They were really good!!!
These were good - glad you enjoyed them!
did you like these? it's not clear. :)
i liked them a lot more than i thought i would. they're even great straight out of the freezer!
Glad you liked these so much...your co-workers shouldn't get all the good stuff!
Now that's the way to serve a cookie! I'm glad you enjoyed them so much, and that you kept some for yourself.
Wow, I'm impressed that you usually manage to avoid the bowl licking. I can usually exercise self-control with baked cookies, but forget it with the dough. =)
I love the floating cookie shot.
Glad you loved them so much, but I can't believe you don't eat most of what you bake! No wonder you are so tiny.
Woo hoo for indulgence! Glad you let yourself try this one, even just once. :)
Yeah, I can't buy Whoppers, cuz if I buy'em, I eat'em! Your cookies look perfect!
I gotta admit, the bowl is usually my downfall.
Your story has such a classic ending: one batch for you, one batch for me. Perfect, really.
Nany
haha, wonderful pictures. Your cookies look fabulous and I gather you really LOVED these cookies. I am going to make mine again, but with the right amount of eggs this time. Yours look nice and chewy. MIne were more cakey, probably due to the extra egg I mistakenly put in! Oh yes, in answer to your question, they're still around coz there's only two of us and Todd doesn't like chocolate cookies or chocolate cake. (I know, I can't believe it either!) Anyways, I may be a glutton, but even I can't eat a whole recipe of cookies in three days! lol
Hehe. I'm glad you liked these. I thought they were amazing, too. :)
Im glad your loved the cookies. They turned out great.
They are good cookies. I already have a request to bake them again.
I love your photo - made me want to go grab a cookie and a glass of milk!
I'm glad you liked them- they look wonderful and I admire your portion control! :) I bet your co workers love you!
Ha ha - you need to state your love for these more clearly.
I wish I could buy bulk malted milk balls at the market!!
We loved these too! I'm glad they hit the spot for you.
I thought that the dough was the best thing about these.
These were fabulous! I liked them 'unbaked' too. Your pictures look great, they make me want to go home and dunk a cookie in milk.
Love the pics. How did you get that cookie piece to float on the top of the glass. Must be the magic in these cookies. Sorry you didn't like them hahahahahahahahaa. Great Job.
I totally agree with you about the cookies! I too tried the batter, and was in heaven, then I tried the cookies and was in ultimate heaven!!
wow, they're gorgeous! good restraint on not eating the batter - the batter was delicious and i was tempted to keep eating it. :) my husband (who doens't like malt) even ended up loving them!
hehe :) great post, glad you like these so much!! i agree, they were irresistible ;)
Hooray for cookie eating! There's nothing wrong with making a whole batch of something and hording it. You must know that from reading my TWD posts.
Glad you LOVED the cookies! They look so good. I can't wait to make them!
These are deadly! It's good to indulge on the stuff you LOVE, then execute a bit of control when it come to the rest.
I'll never tell that you kept the second batch to yourself. It's our secret. I loved these as well. I may have to make them again.
Oh, God, it's so nice to score a total winner for yourself sometimes. A private batch of cookies! Yesssss.
you guys are going to make me try these again with all of the ingredients this time. they look so freaking fudgy!
Ha! I used to sell those giant malted milk balls at my store. Maybe I should get them again.
These look great!
It's great that you loved these! My absolute favorite Dorie cookies, however, are next week's chocolate chunkers. Use really good chocolate and you will SWOON.

Hahahaha So the cookies broke your willpower! It had to happen sometime! But, WOW do yours look gorgeous! Well worth it!
Love your pic! glad you got to try these ones!
I love that top photo. And I'm glad you loved the cookies -- they need some love! But really? You don't eat this stuff, or the batter? I wish I had that kind of self-control.
You are too funny! I liked these ones but my hubby wasn't as impressed...
As for our son...well, even if I subbed the milk there is still the malted milk powder and the whoppers themselves...I have made almost every recipe lactose free over the last several months but this one just wasn't going to happen...it just wouldn't be the same...
LOVE LOVE LOVE these cookies as well! Your cookies turned out perfectly shaped! Good job!
Hahaha... I love that you made them again! I couldn't risk having them around for too long, so we were handing them out to everyone we saw this past weekend.
Oh great looking cookies! Glad you enjoyed them!
WOW! You really DID love them didn't you? You loved them soooo much, you should be Dorie's personal spokesperson! I wonder if she pays in cash or cookies???
I try not to eat too many of the things I bake too and usually give most of it away. When it comes to cookies though, you can never have just one! Your cookies look great and I love the first pic!
You don't eat your own creations? I see you don't regret eating these then ;)
I loved the batter as well! Actually I love raw cookie dough better than the cooked stuff!
Hello, Whooper Addiction Hotline? Admitting you have a problem is the first step to recovery.
i can't believe you don't usually try what you make--not even a taste?? well, i'm glad you found something delicious enough to break your self control! :)
wow...I envy you! I have to try at least a tiny bit. My hips show it too!
Great job! Your cookies look delicious!
Great idea of making a 1/2 batch; but the recipes keep disappearing! Your cookies look wonderful and I am glad you tried them.
okay i think you have thoroughly convinced me to try making these cookies!
Oh, I'm with you. These will be in my home often, well, I'll make them often but they probably won't last long. I love them!
Wait...? So did you like these cookies? I couldn't tell from your entry. It was a little cryptic. HAHA. I admit I wasn't a big fan like you but I ate alot of unused whoppers. Oops!
Clara @ iheartfood4thought
I love maltesers!
Hahaha, I'm glad they were so trascendentally good... I mean, better than chocolate or than your favourite candy? You really must have loved them!
They look amazing indeed :)
Holy smokes, that's some amazing self-control you (normally) have. I'm, um, not that way.
I loved them too. I actually made them a few weeks ago and put them in the freezer because I left town for a week. They were still fantastic when I got back. I had to give them away because anytime I saw them I would eat one.
I am with you on the malted milk balls too. I love them :)
Well, yours look really nice and fluffy and like Dorie's...I have no idea what I did to mine but they were flat and crispy...that said, there was no problem with their appeal around here...they ate them by the handfuls. Literally. Love your photos...cute post...but that's why I always come by here, for the cute post and great photos!

I'm with you on the half batch. It makes it easier to do it again! Looking good.
Glad to hear these cookies brought your self-control! No need blowing it for something not so good! :)
I am so glad that you were finally able to let it all out after keeping your love for these cookies bottled up for so long! Your pictures are amazing! And you picked a great cookie for breaking away from your usual "no sampling" policy (which completely blows me away, by the way!)
Glad you finally gave in. I stuck a bunch in the freezer so 1. I wouldn't eat them all at once and 2. so I could thaw a few out when I needed a cookie. Love the photos too!
Fab pics! I LOVED them too!!
I loved these too!
Caitlin, we were on the same page with these. LOVE. But you have to dry the dough. It is the best.
WoW! A cookie you truly LOVE! I am so happy for you only because I know how we bake in search of the best recipes only to try and keep out of the end result when we are done. We all deserve to bake something once in a while that we each truly fall in love with! =D Your cookies look absolutely delicious!
Ha! A girl after my own heart! Seriously, most of the fun of making the cookies is in sampling the batter, then eating a cookie (...or two...) warm right out of the oven. Then trying the leftovers the next morning for breakfast.
And I love the first pic of the cookie balanced on the milk glass! So cute.
Lovely looking cookies! Yes, they are truly irresistible.
Wow - you mean you've never eaten your home baked goodies??? Your self control is amazing and inspiring! So glad you enjoyed these so much - your cookies look mahvelous!
I hear ya! I didn't want to share these cookies, after having one still warm from the oven! HEAVEN!
You didn't taste the batter?? OMG, it was even better than the peanut butter one! To die for.
Your cookies look delicious, absolutely perfect with that glass of cold milk.
I loved these cookies too, I think my kids weren't too keen on the malt flavour. They normally love chocolate cookies but not these ones.
I liked these as well. Each bite with a whopper in it was to die for! First time on your blog, adding you to my google reader. ;-)
They are pretty yummy...
These cookies look great! I loved them too and keep thinking about making them again!
WOW, you have so much willpower. Your co-workers must love you (and Dorie)!
Glad you enjoyed them :)
These look great and I love your pics!
I know...I kind of had a heavy hand with the malt powder! I love your pics with the milk...mmm it make me want cookies and mile right now!
yum! i loved these cookies too. seems like they were hit or miss w/a lot of people. my confession - i just made these again - a DOUBLE batch tonight (so i could freeze some and have them at a moment's whim in the future)
I've heard so many good things about these cookies. I might have to try them.
