Sometimes words get in the way. Right now, words would get in the way of how wonderfully I feel. I'll just leave you with a couple though, because I truly can't keep my mouth shut.
Nothing, nothing, is better than a day spent reading, drinking mug after mug of tea, and eating cookies while watching the snow fall. Especially knowing you don't have to go anywhere. It just leaves me with an indescribable feeling of peace and contentment, which is perfect for the season.
So in short, I'm a happy lil engineer baker today, and want to leave you with my own happenstance photo - I was uploading pictures for this post and looked up to see the exact tableau you see below. If that doesn't describe how wonderful this day has been, I don't know what does. I just had to take a picture and share.
So that's my favorite way to spend a day; what's yours? What leaves you with an almost bubbly happiness?

Ciao ! Well for me too that would be great ! but... with the kids around it is very rare but having them around is, most of the time, fantastic !
Sounds like the perfect day, and with perfect cookies to boot! Actually, your perfect day is pretty close to my perfect day too, now that you mention it! Of course, it doesn't really snow where I live now, so I'd have to say reading, tea, cookies, and watching it look cold outside.
I love the snowman cookie! That is just my size.....and with tea and a good book what could be better?!?!
Cute cookies! For me, time spent at home with the family (with a little bit of kitchen time thrown in) is perfect!!!
What lovely pictures! Tea drinking and cookie eating sound good to me. I do miss snow a little bit...
Ahhhhh - that does sound like a perfect day. We had snow falling this weekend too (though I was a little taken aback - snow, already, huh?)
Your cookies look beautiful! Love the cutout buttons on your snowman :-)
I love the photos and it looks like a perfect day. I have the same inclinations on snowy days and hated going to school and work when I wanted to curl up with a book or a good movie! :)
What a great day to have, I would have to say that would be one of my favorite ways too! Your sables look so nice and festive! I love it!
Your cookies look beautiful! I love your comfy scene. Please take a picture of snow next time!!! I live in Florida. :-(
The cookies look delicious. The day sounds amazing. I'm with Natalia. But I'd take your day any time.
The cookies look fantastic! I love the snowman in particular -- it just works so well with the powdered sugar. A cold snowy day with a hot cup of tea is great, so long as I don't have to go outside at all. Add a roaring fire and I might just be a very happy clam. But, as I was born & raised in a climate where it only freezes a couple of times each winter, my perfect day involves lemonade, sunshine, and a lack of mosquitoes outside!
Great post and great looking cookies! I'm so jealous of your snow, it almost never snows here, ever. My perfect day is similar, snuggling up inside when its cold outside. Enjoying knitting, coffee or tea, some baked good and great music.
I agree with you. Nothing better than having nothing to do except sipping a cup of tea and eating some (DELICIOUS) cookies on a cold day.
I looooooooove your snowman cookie. So festive!
How cozy, I love it! We don't really get winters like that here, but where I grew up, we got plenty of snow. I love sitting by the fireplace, hot chocolate and Christmas lights!
I'm with you! Reading, tea, napping with the puppies. The house to myself....
Love the snowman cookie - he is getting a workout this month!
Gorgeous cookies.
What leaves me with that much happiness is when my daughter out of the blue tells me she loves me, and plants a kiss on my cheek.
I like the new layout! Or at least I think it's new because I don't remember it from my last visit.
Anyway, I love the snowman cookie! I never would have thought doing that! And watching the snow fall without anywhere to go is the best feeling for winter. Well, besides Christmas morning.
And yes, this was my first time baking with actual butter. I usually stick with margarine for all my baking unless it's necessary, like sables or shortbread.
What a good little engineer baker you are. I love your still life photos with cookies.
Your pictures are wonderful! :) All of the things in your last picture make me happy!
LOL LOL LOL Here it is and there it's gone... really like the disappearing snowman!
Beautiful array of happy sablés!
Don't you wish everyday was like that?
ooh man, nothing i like better than a cozy day with a good book and cookies!! :) your sables turned out so cute, i love the snowman!
Great looking cookies. Okay, okay...winter lover that you seem to be, I will grant you that these look lovely in the little scenario with the mug and the book and the couch and the cozy...so I could get into that. HOWEVER, picture these cookies on a nice platter with an icy lemonade, water droplets cascading down the glass from heat meeting ice, surrounded by a pool chair poolside with a nice big fluffy beach towel, a book, some great sunglasses, and the sounds of the little fountain bubbling in the background on a nice sunny SUMMER day...does that do anything for you? I am thinking these cookies would be great in that little scenario! Okay, I'll play nicely...it all looks GREAT! Love the snowman!
That sounds like a perfect afternoon to me. Tea, cookies and a book! I'm dying to read Twilight. Have you read it? Isn't December fun! Your cookies look great as always.
I'm so jealous! It never snows here!! I guess I could still drink some tea, read a book and at least pretend it's snowing outside, couldn't I? Good idea! :-)
Your sables look wonderful! I thought these were great cookies...

Your linzer cookies turned out great! Sounds like a fabulous day! My perfect day would be pretty much the same as yours except that I'd throw in a few naps! ;)
That is exactly how I spent my Sunday... Curled up on my couch, by the fire, snow outside and reading... Love it!! And love your cookies... they look adorable.
So perfect! Perfect perfect perfect. I totally agree: book, tea, snow, cookies. Happy Duffy.
Your photos certainly put me in a restful mood after running around all morning. A good book (or two or three), coffee, and the house to myself is about all I need. Oh, and a cookie (or two or twenty).
I love your snowman cookies! Now I'm off to go check out the book on your table.
As long as the heat is on high, I'm with you. Nothing beats the peace and tranquility of falling snow.
Your snowman linzer looks cute.
What a perfect day! And your cookies look perfect too. The lack of an oven has made such a difference around here -- I didn't realize just how often it's on, and how it warms (and scents!) the whole house. I'm going to pretend I had your kind of day rather than mine!
Your big snowman cookie is too cute. My perfect day is whenever the kids get along (for the majority of the AM) and take a nice long nap.
Looks like you've got a little slice of heaven there.
What a great post Caitlin.
I think, lately, baking does the best job of leaving me with that feeling. I always feel so satisfied when I've made something well.
Cute snowman, I'm sure he tasted delightful! And I'll take one day like that to go with it, please!
Thanks!
Your perfectly contented day sounds a lot like mine. Only it doesn't snow here. I like to watch the cats instead.
p.s. the word verification right now is "phomy" ha.
Your cookies look so good! Glad you got to relax and do nothing but what you wanted, sometimes that's the best day. Will be making my cookies this week.
The cloves make this a perfect winter cookie (although I'll eat holiday spices all year around even if you don't twist my arm). As I was rooting around my cookie cutter drawer, I thought of you with your one cutter. You rocked this week's cookies - the snowman and some pastry tips! The buttons are pure inspiration. And speaking of inspiration, your little winter tableau is my perfect idea of bliss.

oh, I love your snowman shaped cookie!!! we are heading into summer, so loving the hot days at the beach leading up to Christmas!
hi caitlin! your cookies are so lovely...but your day sounds even lovlier. i agree--nothing is better than relaxing at home, with yummy food, watching the snow fall. great job on the cookies :)
ahhh...how relaxing! these were perfect tea cookies!
Cutey patooty snowman sables you got there! Perfect day for me? Laying out on a beach, book, hubs and caramel apple martini. Oh yeah... heaven.

I love your pics and your cuite pie snowman!!!
Lovely! I can't get enough of these cookies with tea and a good book!
The snowman with a jelly-filled belly - so cute. I share your kicks, a full day of undisturbed baking and cooking while it is cold and rainy outside is just about perfect.
That is one of my favorite ways to spend the day, too. And I thought the cookies were fabulous with a cup of tea!
These are some of my favorite photos. There is nothing better than reading a book-cozied up on the couch with goodies. Perfect!
Not to mention how cute your cookies turned out. Lovely- I want to come over and spend a lazy afternoon!
LOVE your snowman cookie!! I love cozy relaxing days at home too! Especially with something good to read, a hot drink, a cookie (or 2) AND a fuzzy blanket. You have it pictured perfect!
well, it would have been a perfect scenario for me, too...I love, love, love Laurie Colwin, both the food writing and her novels. And your cookies look wonderful. Your happy things made me happy too - thanks for a great post.
Snowmen!!! That's exactly what I did with mine. Wrapped up on the couch with a cup of peppermint mocha and a cookie and watched it snow. Perfection.
Sounds like a great day! With your cute little snowman!
Sounds like a lovely day, and your cookies are beautiful. Thanks for the tip on making mini-desserts for TWD. I agree baking is too much fun: I would definitely rather run a few more miles per week than quit baking.
Everyone has been getting so creative with the presentation of these - the snowman is great!
Well, your photo describes a perfect day for me, too. And of course, if a nap happened to occur sometime during that same day, that would just make it all the better. Really cute pictures, and lovely cookies, too!
Tea and cookies, snow and books, what a great combination. I like the snowman. I'll have to find one to add to my collection.
Your cookies turned out beautifully! I love the snowman!
It sounds like you've had a wonderful day. Send me some snow to enjoy, too!
A perfect day for me would be snuggling in bed with a book while it's raining outside. :-)
Love the snowman linzer cookies, too cute!
Your cookies look fabulous and your day sounds so incredibly relaxing and wonderful. I think a relaxing day for me would be doing the same thing you did. Aaah... heaven!
Just beautiful and delicious! I have the Holiday bug already and these cookies complement my high tea!
Cute snowman cookies. The time gathering around the table and eating cookies has begun.

Beautiful festive cookies and tea, perfect for a cold snowy day.
Great presentation!
Okay call me cheesey.... first thing that came to mind was Legally Blonde. Its a perfect day .......hmhmhmhmhm all pink and with "tiny dog." Please don't hold it against me. Just made me laugh. ha ha
I do love your word picture with the snow and tea and movies and books and last but not least linzer cookies. Yours looks so cute. How appropriate to have a snowman. Yippee

Oh, that is the perfect day ever! Love your snowman cookie.
The little snowman is gorgeous! I can picture you there with your tea and biscuit, tucked up all safe and warm while the snow falls outside.
What a lovely relaxing day you must have had! That blankie and the Linzer cookies would do the trick. Just love the snowman.
I love the snowman! So glad you enjoyed your day. It sounds perfect!
. . . and that's such a great book for that kind of day!
Excellent!
Sounds like you had a fun time! Great looking cookies!
cute sables!
