The boyfriend has been a regular sidenote on many of my recipes on this-here blog. I think I've mentioned how he isn't nearly as much of a sweets lover as I am, and that I have difficulty foisting baked goods off on him when I know they'll still be there, three weeks later, just nibbled on. He forgets about them, he claims. How can you forget an ice cream torte (2/3 of it still in his freezer, terribly freezer burned)? How can you forget ginger and chocolate gingerbread (the scraps are still sitting in his refrigerator)? I couldn't. Maybe that's why I have to run so much though. If I was able to forget about delicious baked goods, I wouldn't be planning on going to the gym for a 7 mile run soon after writing this post.
But every now and then, a recipe comes along that the boyfriend swoons over. He demands it, then proceeds to eat all of the resulting tastiness in one night, ignoring that whole "dinner" concept.
This is one of those recipes. I made it, sliced it, and handed him a little sliver. It disappeared. I handed him another one, just to see what happened. Gone. I sat there, with the rest of the cookies just out of his reach. Soon, he got this look on his face - a hopeful, goofy expression that just screams "please, pretty please, with puppy eyes?" I declare victory when I get those looks. Then I send the entire batch home with him, just to drive home the satisfaction of finding a baked good that he can't resist.
So how long did these cookies last? Two nights. He sat down with the container of them on Monday night and ate all of the cookie slices. The next night, he took the crumbled up leftovers and ate them over ice cream.
I'd call that success. And Whitney? You have my everlasting gratitude.
Last Week: Devil's Food Whiteout Cake (there's still some of that left too...)
Next Week: Chocolate Armagnac Cake (the cake that got Dorie fired!)

Ha victory! well these surely look delicious. my boyfriend is like that too and I cannot understand how you can forget sweets in the fridge :) I have to try these too maybe they ll be polished off too :)
I declared these bars absolutely dangerous to have around! Weren't they fabulous! Yours look delicious. I Love that you made them round like a pizza!
Ciao ! I'm so glad you two enjoied this bars !! I'm not doing any Phisical activity that's why I only ate the cut outs !!
We're just the opposite around here. Jamie has a much bigger sweet tooth than I do. I liked these (and yours look terrific!), but I don't feel many qualms about packing them up to take to the daycare. The croissants I made, though? I think I ate all but one myself. We won't talk about how quickly... =)
You'd better bookmark this recipe for when you want something (jewels, primarily) from Boyfreeend - and keep them round again - that looks cool!
LOL - I am glad that your boyfriend loved them.
I love the way you cut these! Were yours crunchy? Mine were delicious but very crisp. I ended up using a dark chocolate on the top and they still were all gobbled up. If I had used milk chocolate I don't think they would have lasted until the next day!
So pretty.
hehe--that's excellent! love your wedges...very pretty!
Gotta love it! Score for Caitlin! And how can they "forget" dessert in the freezer? What's that about?
That is very good to have your boyfriend eat all of these...I think with all the butter and chocolate in these, it would be dangerous to have around too long! I love that you made yours round and then really had shortbread like slices of them...they are so pretty that way!
It's like people who say "I forgot to eat." I don't get it. Glad they were so enjoyed!
Wow, what a winner of a recipe. I can't wait to try this science experiment on my boyfriend! I'm with you, though: I can't resist stuff like this, so I have to resort to physical movement (aka running) to make sure that it doesn't just sit on my hips. Either way, this recipe looks so deliciously worth the calories!
Awesome job! Glad the BF enjoyed them so much :) :)
Lady, I feel you. I think the same man must fly back and forth between California and Wisconsin gallivanting around as different women's boyfriends. Mine swallowed these ones too. I think some are just cookie people.
Awwwwhhhhhh what a sweet story.
These were great.
LOVE those photos! And I love that your boyfriend just snatched these up! I am often at the gym because of Dorie... I feel your pain!
Love how you cut them in wedges. Perfect. Great job.
Good job! They were obviously delicious. Haha so delicious he even had the crumbs on his ice cream, fantastic! This recipe is definitely a keeper for us too, my kids and friends loved them!
Nice, I always get highly offended when the boyfriend does not consume my desserts in the appropriate time frame...glad you found a hit!
Sweeeett!!! Those look awesome! Love the wedges.
Love this! And yes, I totally agree. It's nice to see them swoon, isn't it? Reminds them just how superior we are to them...
How wonderful that your bars were a hit with the boyfriend. I know something is a hit with my husband when he get territorial over my taking extras to work or to my family. There are some he won't let leave the house.
I love how you baked the bars in a circular pan and sliced them in nice slivers.
Great idea cutting these in wedges! They look fantastic!
The slivers are a great idea. Love that the boyfriend was so enamoured of the bars!
It's always nice to get a victory every now and then!
Next week's cake is one of my absolute favourites!
Oooooooooh! Look at those cute little mini pizza slices! Love it! The crunch in these bars were overwhelmingly delicious!
Love the post!
Love that you cut them into cute little wedges! Glad the boyfriend enjoyed them so much! I'm always happy when someone really enjoys one of the recipes I try.
Love the wedges, nice presentation! I had to get them out of the house or I would be wearing them today.
I'm glad that you've discovered a recipe that hits a homerun with the BF! It's always gratifying when someone enjoys your handiwork, which your BF definitely did.
Love the wedges...I don't think mine would have survived the cutting. You have a very appreciative boyfriend - sounds like he knows how lucky he is!
I wish I could forget dessert but it is usually on my mind most the day. Crumbled over ice cream may be the perfect way to enjoy these. Love your little triangular slices. perfect.
I am not surprised your fella liked these. I don't understand forgetting about sweet treats in the house. I am more likely to obsess about them.
Yep, take those victories when you can! Love the little wedges - they look fabulous.
Nancy
Oh, I love the circle cookie bar...they look so elegant on that plate, etc. Very very nice. I laughed about him forgetting about the treats around...there are days I wish I could hide things and they would forget about them around here, so I would have something left for the next day or two, but THEY NEVER FORGET!! LOL. Fun post.
these were successful in my house too. I ate a few and sent the rest for the builders - they were eaten in one morning
i've mentioned my boyfriend is the same way as yours. he totally turned his nose up on these which led to me eating almost the whole pan over a few days. it's funny because stuff i don't think he'll touch he eats and loves but then other things he just says "eww". i can't figure him out sweets wise. 7 mile run???? i'm still working on my 5k running and it hasn't been easy at all, i can't wait for the day i can run 7 miles. :)
My boyfriend demolished these too but he's not quite as forgetful with sweet things so it wasn't as impressive. Congratulations on finding a winning recipe for him!
I think your boyfriend and my husband must be related. I can't understand how someone can "forget" a home made baked good!?! It boggles my mind. Well...the husband LOVED these, too. Success for both of us!
Hooray. I love it when my family especially my husband LOVES a recipe. I feel accomplished :)
My husband is just like your boyfriend. I think about dessert constantly, so I don't understand how you can "forget!" I have to remind him all the time that he has sweets that he can eat. Anyway, your bars look great!
What a beautiful way to cut it! I love the circular shape. Very trendy treat looking! I wish I were like your BF and did not like sweets so much. I run with my sweet tooth in mind, too!
I love when that happens! There have only been a few desserts that blow my husband away so I feel great when I make one he loves.
What a sweet victory! The wedges look great.
haha, there's always a chink in their armour! ;) glad this went over so well. it looks so cool in the round tart shape!
They were ridiculously good!!! Love the pie shape too... :)
Awesome! These look so fantastic. Love the round shape and slivers.
The butter that was running through his veins. shutter
I, too, so love making something my husband LOVES. (It's not always an easy task.)
Yummy!
Your photos look amazing! I particularly like the top shot at the end. It looks gorgeously artistic :)
So many goodies, so little time, I guess. :) Your bars look fantastic, I love your photos!
