TWD: Chocolate Whiskey Mini Cupcakes

When something is titled "The Cake That Got Me Fired," wouldn't you think it would take less than a year before someone picked it?!? I mean, really guys - we waited a year for the Korova cookies, over a year for this... It's like we're saving up the ones with the really good stories. And the ones that only take 5 minutes to mix in one bowl. I'm thinking the latter issue is one that needs further investigation actually; what's so wrong with muffins? My dishwasher (aka me) needs a break here! Lyb, we need to have a discussion here. Real soon.

Speaking of, the end tally for dishes was: two pans, four bowls, three spoons, one measuring cup, one food processor, one hand mixer, and one mini muffin pan. Phew! Now, a couple of those things probably weren't necessary, especially the food processor. But the last thing I wanted to do on Monday night at 6p was make a full-size cake. So I thirded the recipe (approximately, I wasn't really measuring so much), pulverized my whiskey-soaked prunes into a tasty paste, and spooned the resulting cake batter into a well greased mini muffin pan. Twelve minutes later, I had my first batch of ooey-gooey chocolatey goodness. In all, I got 16 mini chocolate whiskey cakes.

And yes, I did try one (how else would I know how ooey and gooey these were?). Dear. Lord. I might have difficulty taking these into work. Intensely chocolatey, slightly bitter, incredibly moist... These were good. These were better than good. I could potentially eat waaaay too many of these little buggers. Which is why I immediately wrapped them up, stashed them away, and decided my only revenge was to not tell anyone that there were prunes in them. Until after they ate them.

It's the little things, people. It's the little things.

Last Week: Caramel Crunch Bars
Next Week: Lemon Cup Custard

Caitlin! I love, LOVE your little mini versions!! They are so cute! I don't know why anyone would want to fire anyone who made this cake really. It truly is scrumptious!

I love the miniature cakes you made! They're just precious, and from your description, they sound absolutely divine! Seems like the only complaint from everyone is too many dishes (personally, I think that everyone who eats the treats should be responsible for the dishes...never the baker :) )!

The minis are a great idea, and I agree - this cake is so good, it is dangerous.

I agree with you now I have to give it away soon !

Your mini cupcakes are adorable! I love your plate too :) Sorry to hear there were so many dishes - I hate when a recipe fills my sink with dirty dishes!

Your minicakes are gorgeous! I really enjoyed this recipe, but too many dishes LOL

What a sneakster. I'll bet these cakes are highly entertaining as bite sized entities.

That's a very cool plate!

I totally wanted to run my prunes through the food processor too, but I'm usually too lazy to use it. I ended up just mashing the prunes a bit, which mostly worked.

I pretty much had the same opinion of this dessert that you did, except that I wasn't smart enough to give it away. I better go work out now.

I agree - this was a great cake, and I skipped the frosting!

Love the minis, Caitlin!
Delicate, dainty, precious... for suuuuuuuch a big chocolate taste! (such small bites can trick you into believing, after all... you're not eating soooo many calories, are you?) LOL LOL

Nice plate too...

I love that you (almost) always do mini versions of the recipes. You're better at showing restraint than I am! :) I'm so glad you liked it. It's surprising how moist the cake turned out. Thanks for baking along with me this week!

Those are some cute little babies. I would not fire anyone who made me this cake!

And damn it, I am NOT on your sidebar. Maybe some day! :)

My pot and pan count looked something like yours only minus the food processor.

They were fab!

I love your minis! Good job not telling anyone about the prunes until afterward. I brought most of my cake to work this morning and have told no one about the prunes!

I agree, way too many things to wash, however it was pretty good. In this week's Sunday NYTimes business section, I noticed you and Google's Marissa Mayer are both engineer bakers!!! Check out the link.

Yeah - it's the little things all right - that's why I only made 1/4 of the recipe - so I wouldn't have to share with anyone! Ok, besides my kids.

they are so cute! (and i love your plate :) ) great idea to FP the prunes!

Your mini-cakes look cute. This cake was yummy, even with all the pans and dishes.

When it finally is my turn to pick a recipe I will probably pick one with the shortest recipe so I don't have to type so much. I'm lazy like that. :P

Very cute cakes. I would have hidden them away as well.

Love that everyone named their cakes by the liquor that is in them! :) Of course your mini's are adorable as always. I loved this cake.

pretty mini cuppies!

mini versions would be great for a dinner party with ice cream. I agree - if you dont know there are prunes in them you are more likely to eat them and even more likely not to notice that there are prunes in them!

What a darling way to deal with a big recipe like this one! Very cute!

Wow, that's a lot of dishes. =) I'm still trying to decide between the prunes and raisins. Hopefully I'll get this made in the next day or two.

What cute minis! Yours cakes are too precious!

Bite-sized would be just too dangerously easy to pop in the mouth! I didn't tell people about the prunes either.

MyKitchenInHalfCups said...

Unbelievable that you could get fired for this one! Minis are just beautiful Caitlin.

Pamela said...

I didn't even think about using the FP to turn the prunes into paste. What a good idea that is! Next time... Nice job on the mini muffins!

Teanna said...

You always have the cutest plates! Love the mini cakes! They are great for portion control... unless you eat them all yourself!!! Hahah gorgeous!

Rebecca of "Ezra Pound Cake" said...

Cuuuuuute! These were intensely chocolaty, which make the chance of sharing ... slim.

Amber Marie said...

Cute minis! You're a much better co-worker than I am though, I kept this one all to myself :)

Natashya said...

I can always count on you for the cutest minis on the block!
I just cut up the prunes, so I have little chunks in mine, I might try pulverizing them next time, to see what the difference would be.
Good call not to tell about the prunes until after, some people have prune prejudices!

TeaLady said...

Mini bites of yum!!! Glad you liked them.

I think pulverizing the prunes in the food processor is a great idea. That way the picky people (aka daughters) have to eat them and not pick them out! I think cupcakes were a great idea for these!

I love the mini version!

They are so cute! How were you able to save any of them? I had to get my little lowly cake out of the house! It was so delicious. Great job.

So, did they find out? About the prunes? And are you still around to bake again?

Love the mini cakes -- a really perfect idea.

I love the minis...you are so great to share how to make minis of everything...I don't trust myself to deviate one little bit from the recipe and over here you are wheelin' and dealin' each week...such fun! Great job...great photos.

Haha good idea with the prunes. Let people tell you how amazing they are. Then tell them the secrect ingredient ;)
