Oh Bread Baking Babes, I do love each and every one of you. Obviously, I love your picks each month as well, since I've managed to make quite a few as time goes along. But this month? *sigh*
I barely fit it in, mixing, kneading, rising, shaping - baking them and wresting them out of the oven right before heading into work. They sat, cooling on the rack, until I got back home the next morning. And they were so cute - spiral-y and stuffed with sugar. Let me tell you, my hopes were high. I thought- "I'm so lucky, I bought tahini a few months back to make Pocky and since then the jar has just sat! Perfect, a recipe I can use some of it up in!" And really, everything I've put tahini in I've liked. But here's the thing - it hasn't been the star in anything. Hummus? Pocky? It just adds the je ne sais quoi factor to both. But these, these have tahini in the name! and a swirl of it throughout!
And here's where things break down. Because people, I don't like the taste of tahini. Little did I know, it just has a different sort of nuttiness that I'm simply not a fan of. Fortunately (?) for me, I had only made a half recipe - yielding three beautifully swirled, flaky pastries. Oh, and one little one, because I was too vigorous stretching the dough out before making it into a pinwheel and tore the end off one of the strands. (oops?)
So my apologies to Natashya, since I even asked to make sure I could post late and still be counted among the Buddies, but I don't think this is going in my regular rotation. Maybe for me, tahini just needs to be in the background.
Check out the recipe here though, if you're a bigger fan of tahini than I (and many of the Babes were!).

Hmm, that remains to be seen for me-- I've never tasted tahini before! Should I be cuffed and dragged out? :)
Oh I just love tahini! Makes for a nice change to PB sometimes, even if you'd disagree. ;P
what an interesting recipe! these look so good!
Yours turned out beautifully. Unlike me, however, you correctly chose tahini paste. I chose tahini sauce (quite unintentionally), hence the garlic. Now, what to do with a container of tahini-garlic-sugar sauce . . . .
Well, they look awesome, but I would probably be with you - I don't think I would like them at all. Now, if you could sub almond cream instead, then I'd probably go nuts!
Caitlin, I am in serious need of making this bread now. The title alone is already tempting! Thanks for sharing dear!
This is one delicacy I've never heard of before, but I do love tahini, so I'm sure I would adore this bread!
OH, so sorry you didn't like the tahini. I thought the sugar transformed it into a different kind of taste/texture experience.
They do look tasty to me, feel free to ship them on over!
Thanks for baking with us!
This is looks so lovely. I actually like Tahini - however, not in large doses. I will have to check through all your posts for the other breads that you have made. So many interesting varieties!
I've only had tahini in hummus, not really sure how it would taste in other stuff. Looks great though!
Caitlin,
We love you too!
Actually, I have to admit something...
I'm kind of in your camp about tahini. I was surprised that I liked them since I'm not a huge seasame fan. Luckily there were lots of guys on the sailboat when I made mine to eat the leftover filling ;-)
Those sound interesting. TAhini. I've never had that.
I ahve to agree about tahini. I love sesame everything else but tahini is so bitter to me I can't eat it. Pity as I have 3/4 a jar of it left! :P
That's ok - I don't like cinnamon, etc. in my chocolate! At least now you know. I was crazy about these, and am dreaming about making them again!
You don't like tahini? What about in hummus? Your rolls look awesome ( I love tahini).
Your rolls look great! And at least you know now that you are not that keen on tahini. HOpe you had others to eat them. Our daughter -who I thought would love them- didn't like them either. THanks for baking with us, again... we love you too!
I've had tahini go rancid ... it is really bad.
I probably liked the pesto best. Maybe you would like it better with a touch of good ol peanut butter or nutella ;)
Whatever we love you too!!
A swirl of peanut butter sounds fantastic. I like tahini but not sure if I would like it outside of hummus.
