TWD: Brownie Buttons

"No! Not the buttons! Not my gumdrop buttons!" ~ Gingerbread Man, from Shrek

In the honor of one sentence blog posting (see Nancy's explanation here), here is my take on Jayma's choice this week:

Brownie Buttons, a half recipe
Peanut butter cream cheese frosting
Doesn't make up for rubbery texture
Sorry, not a repeat recipe

Last Week: Classic Banana Bundt Cake
Next Week: Applesauce Spice Bars

Just adorable. Love the snappy post. So now you've got these out of the way....on to puff pastry? :)

Sorry these didn't work out for you. at least they were cute!

Sorry to hear they were rubbery. Someone suggested better chocolate. Maybe that's the answer.
Love your photos!

I considered a one-sentence post of these too (even though I didn't know there was an organized thing happening), because, come on, they're brownies baked in a mini-muffin pan. They were pretty much exactly what I expected. Sorry they didn't work out for you! I wonder why - mine seemed pretty good. I did think the recipe's recommended baking time was too long.

PB cream cheese frosting sounds wonderful. Mine weren't rubbery, but I agree - not worth a repeat.

I can only imagine how disappointing they would have been without the peanut butter cream cheese icing. I hope the applesauce bars work out better!

Maybe Dorie doesn't do brownies very well? I was disappointed by the white chocolate ones this week.

Fun post! Sorry they weren't a favorite!

Sorry they didn't work out for you. Mine were just perfect - but like you said - its' a brownie.

Nice sentence.

Haha fun post - very poetic. Sorry you weren't a fan, but fortunately there are lots of other terrific brownie recipes out there :)

That was fun one sentence posting, but sorry you did not like it. Try Alice Medrich brownies, one of the best recipes around.

Pretty!

I glad I did not make these then! Love the short post...very cool concept.

I think that your peanut butter icing would be good even on plain rubber, so I bet I would have enjoyed your brownies, even if they were a little rubbery.

Well, at least that frosting looks delish so you could just lick it off and still have a sweet treat if you don't like the brownies :)

The texture wasn't really my fav either (I thought it was more on the cakey side and I'm more of a gooey person) but I still loved the orange zest in it.

Alright how did you 1/2 an egg!

They sure do look good- too bad they were rubbery. I love the pb cream cheese frosting.

Your buttons look cute. Too bad you didn't like them. Love the poetic sentence.

Sorry yours had a rubbery texture.

Mine turned out great.

Cute pics, too bad you didn't like them!

Great photos! I thought this week was perfect for a one-sentence post, since I also found these underwhelming.

This recipes proves looks aren't everything. I'd rather have a big, honking, sloppy slab of brownie any day. Mine failed to deliver on flavor/texture as well.

FoodTravelDiva said...

Too bad they didn't turn out well. They sure look like they should taste good, though. Hope the Applesauce Spice bars make up for it!

peanutbutter cream cheese icing sounds like it needs to be repeated though!! Yum!

Sorry you didn't love them, at least they were adorable!

One sentence sure does say a lot.
Sorry these didn't turn out to be a repeatable recipe, they look yummy!

oh, poo. hope you had someone to pawn them off on...they are pretty cute!

I over baked mine and they were a bit dry. At least they are cute as buttons!

Love the Shrek reference. =) I want to try this idea again, with a different brownie recipe.

Hee hee! Not my gumdrop buttons!
Sorry you didn't love these, but at least your sentence poem is a thing of beauty.

Peanut butter cream cheese frosting sounds fantastic!

These were definitely not my favorite brownie, but still edible. ;) Love the little poem. The peanut butter icing sounds yummy!

Nothing is more depressing than a dish that has looks but no flavor to back it up. This is the sort of thing that haunts me for days.

On a related note, I made a Dorie recipe for the Lenox biscotti last week and it was an epic fail. I love Dorie so much, I just wish I didn't have such spotty luck with her book. I considered blogging about the recipe anyway and calling it "Biscotti in the Potty", but couldn't see through my tears well enough to type.

Your brownie buttons are so cute!

Ouch! Sorry to hear it wasn't great :( I almost would've never thought that a brownie could be meh till a few months ago (er, supermarket ones :)-- but they weren't rubbery!)!

Aw, such a shame about the rubbery texture, as they look so promising! I like the concept, at least.

Aww what a shame you didn't like them and found them rubbery. I've been reading mixed reviews on other blogs too. They look cute though! :D

Photos looks great, even if it's not a repeater.

Now I'm off to find something to put cream cheese peanut butter frosting on - yum!

These are so adorable with their fluffy white tops. However, I am with you - this is not a repeat recipe.
