TWD: Cottage Cheese Pufflets

These cookies need a serious makeover. I mean, really? Cottage cheese pufflets? Not only do they sound sorta gross (cottage cheese in a cookie?), but they also sound a wee bit too cutesy (pufflets). I'm not entirely sure what you can rename them as, especially since they are rather dainty cookies. Well, except for the whopping amount of butter in them, but that's a given now in TWD, right?

So we can't rename them as Flaky Cookies of DOOM or anything. And Jam-Filled Turnover Cookies is a bit too self explanatory. You have to keep your fellow bakers guessing, right? I believe we all agree that cottage cheese shouldn't be in the title, just for the sake of the squeamish eaters among us. For instance, I would never tell the people at work the name Dorie gave these cookies. Talk about the kiss of death!

But maybe we should include some attributes about them. Fussy, for instance. Mix, refrigerate, roll, refrigerate, cut, refrigerate, fill, crimp, bake, PHEW! Did it occur to anyone to just increase the amount of flour or decrease the amount of butter just to be able to roll these suckers out without swearing?!? Because color me stupid, I didn't think about it until just now. Durrr. Flaky should go in there too though, because they are nicely flaky, if a little greasy from the butter. And fruity, or jammy, or filled - something to indicate that there's something going on besides an overly fussy pastry dough.

So here's my new name for these cookies: Fussy Flaky Fruit-Filled Ffffffff... Crap, anyone know another word for cookie that starts with F? I'm a sucker for alliteration.

Last Week: Flaky Apple Turnovers
Next Week: Chocolate-Crunched Caramel Tart (FYI to those who haven't made this - you will have too much filling. Be warned.)

I didn't find these too fussy at all, and I just adored them! Yours look quite nice. I would make these again and I probably will!

LOL - how about "fripperies"? I am with you on these - OK, but not my favourite and not worth fighting with the dough.

I think a great name would be Jam Triangles or Triangle Jam Puffs. Yours look wonderful, I knew they would though. All your goodies are prize winners :) I backed out this week, too much work, glad it worked for you!

Yep, the name was a problem. I agree. But yours look very tasty.

Ah...I see that you had pretty much the exact same opinion of these as me. Sticky sticky sticky mm, flaky.

I didn't bake this week, but it seems everyone loved this little pain in the butt cookie! Yours look great.

Okay, now you've got me wondering if I should make these today or not. Maybe I'll just go back and do the souffles I missed a couple weeks ago... =) Sorry to hear that they were such a pain to make.

I would call these cookies fickle. There was a lot of swearing in my kitchen this week. Stupid dough. Your pufflets look great.

I agree they do sound gross, I havent made mine yet so I might do as suggested, cut the butter and add more flour, Im not for anything fussy.
Yours look beautiful tho!

Fussy Flaky Fruit-Filled Follies? I didn't get puffy or flaky, but was definitely on the fussy train. Funny post, glad that one is behind us...

I shared your frustration with the dough. But at least you managed to make them look they way they are supposed to look. Mine looked like mutant egg rolls. Well done! :)

I can think of an f-word to use for these. I like Flaky Doom though.

Actually, I'm kind of a fan of "Flakey Cookies of Doom."

I think Flaky Cookies of DOOM is the most fitting! And I did not get mine rolled out without swearing.

So, I take it you did not enjoy this recipe this week? LOL. You are right, those did not puff...I was thinking maybe you were being modest and they would look outstanding like your entries usually do each week, but I have to say...no, you weren't exaggerating, these babies did not puff. At all. Well, at least you displayed them nicely.

Well, they look lovely! Too bad they were such a pain for you... I drained my cottage cheese, and that seemed to help. My dough was actually quite obedient. Fun post.

Caitlin, how did you really feel about these? I'm with some of the above-commenters; I just don't think you can improve on a name that has the word Doom in it (unless you can work in both Cottage Cheese and Doom). Sorry these weren't a favorite. They look good though!

Your post cracked me up. Flaky cookies of doom - that about sums them up for me too! But yours do look dainty and elegant and delicious, anyway.

Great post! I think you had it with "flaky cookis of doom". Either way, yummy but annoying.

Well, from experience, anything ending with "age" instantly wins people over. So my vote, is just to fill them with figs so you can tell people at work they are getting "Fussy-Fig-Filled-Flakage" umm...does that work?

Oh my gosh, you are too funny. I couldn't and didn't even use the c.c. words in my title for this one. A friend who ate some (and loved them) would kill me if he knew there was cottage cheese in them! Wish I could think of an f-word for cookies for you. Hmmm? It's my bedtime. Maybe I'll think of something while I sleep.

I get the sense these make you a little crazy?! I like to shorten them to just "pufflets" so much cuter

Just call me Puffy!! Easy name for hard working dough. Wait, wasn't that the baby mouse's name with Tom and Jerry. Well, he was cute, and so are your pufflets. Brown, flaky, perfect.

I like Flaky Cookies of DOOM, I think we should go with that!
