TWD: Chockablock Cookies

Or mini boulders. Or granola-bars-as-cookies. Or "oh, I have all sorts of odds and ends in my pantry, I guess I'll make cookies!"

Yeah. As I was making these, the fiance looked over and noticed the chopped nuts, chunked chocolate, bottle of molasses, and container of oatmeal. His first comment? "Oh, you're making a Dorie recipe?" Why yes, yes I am. Because no other person would make such monstrosities. Oh no, simple can't truly be better, can it? I mean, this is the woman of chocolate chunkers, granola grabbers, chunky peanut butter and oatmeal chocolate chipsters... Yeah. She went there. Over and over again.

And I must admit I was pleasantly surprised. No, these won't get into my normal cookie rotation, but they were definitely an okay cookie. My opinion was that they were better the second day, when the molasses had mellowed a little bit and you could taste everything individually. But really, I sort of missed the simplicity of a good ol' chocolate chip cookie. Tollhouse recipe.

Which brings me to a new revelation on my part. You see, I had, oh, 2.5 pounds of butter in my fridge as well as the need to bake something for all four shifts in the department I work in. So obviously, chocolate chip cookies. I can pre-scoop and flash freeze them, baking them off as needed. And I figured what the heck - I'll just make a quadruple batch of Tollhouse chocolate chip cookies. Number one: holy hell that's a lot of cookies. Number two: you can only mix a double batch in a standard Kitchenaid stand mixer. Which leads to number three: um, ow, my arm? And number four: I have never. Never. gotten as many compliments on anything I've baked for them as I did for those freaking Nestle Tollhouse chocolate chip cookies.

Lesson learned. Simpler is almost always better.

Last Week: Sweet Cream Biscuits
Next Week: Burnt Sugar Ice Cream (nectar of the gods. for serious.)

This is an interesting cookie. Reading the different blogs, these were either adored or tolerated. No one seems to have hated them.

Yes, simpler is better, but you can also win over people like me with variety, hehe ;)

We like them, but we are old! I probably would not have touched them 20 years ago! Tastes change. I still don't like raisins but do like dates, dried cherries and berries. Isn't baking fun. So many options.

I'm with you on simplicity...but the people in my office devoured them!

Please don't talk about the Tollhouse recipe right now. I didn't get a lot of sleep last night, I'm drinking a big mug of black tea, and a batch of simple chocolate chip cookie dough sounds about perfect. Must. Resist.

Chocolate chip cookies are pure comfort! It was so nice of you to share so much comfort with your co-workers! I did enjoy these TWD cookies, but there's nothing better than the CCC!

I like an 'anything goes' recipe. My family likes chocolate chips. Live and learn.

Usually I think "Less is more? NO! More is more!!" - but when it comes to baking, mostly the proverb is right.

Btw: Love your pictures. Don't know if it is what you wanted, but the slight blue shade gives it a special touch!

Tollhouse cookies are classic! These were okay, but I agree not worth integrating into the rotation.

Cookies look great...guys are insisting they be in regular rotation here. LOL on the Tollhouse. There is a following, a very distinct following on those, you know. What are they going to do without your regular baking appearing at work? You will be missed in so many ways!

Simpler is better! I definitely agree! I also was told that the best cookies I've ever made were from the Tollhouse recipe! So ridiculous! Haha! Your cookies look great!

Yes, these were okay, not great though...

When it comes to a manufacturing environment, they definitely prefer the more straight forward, simple recipes. The things I have made that were really popular were all fairly simple flavors, vanilla, chocolate, butter, cream cheese type things with a LOT of sugar.

These were just okay to me, too. But the guys liked them. Too much 'stuff' for me.

A chocolate chip cookie done right just can't be beat.

So funny - as many cookies as I make, I still don't think anything can compare to a good 'ol Toll House. Or make as many people as happy.

Your cookies look great, though!

I have to agree - there is nothing like a good old fashioned toll house cookie! I thought these cookies were tasty, but they didn't blow my socks off. Simple is definitely better!

Haha isn't that always the way it is - the simplest desserts are the ones people love most. I didn't try the chockablock cookies but my mom raved about them. To be honest, I'm just not much of a cookie person so I'll save my calories for other desserts.
