TWD: Swedish Visiting Cake

We'll just pretend these aren't the crappiest photos to grace this blog, okay? Because there's nothing like asking your fiance if you can borrow his digital camera, only to find out that it is a 3MP piece of crap that can't take an in-focus picture to save it's itty bitty little life. Although I have to admit, it gives an interesting effect. Not the one I was really going for, but we'll just pretend it's artfully blurry - blur is to photography like rustic is to baked goods, right?

As for this cake? Rustic, while a word to describe it, doesn't do it justice. Nancy did us a huge favor by picking this one this week - it's a seriously awesome cake. And I hardly ever say that about a cake that doesn't have any sort of frosting or glaze. Ground shaking. Earth shattering. Awesome. Seriously, I cut a slice for the fiance Saturday night, figuring he could taste test and then take the rest home with him. And then he offered me a bite. Immediately, plotting began running through my head of whether I could convince him that sending him home with peanut butter cookies would be plenty. He didn't really need to take this cake back with him too, did he?

And then I looked over to see crumbs. Damn. Guess I'll just have to make it again, eh? Although I do find it unfair that he got both this and the peanut butter cookies...

Last Week: Mocha Pecan Layered Cake (well, sort of.)
Next Week: Cream Biscuits

Next time make two and put one in the freezer - just for U!!

What will you do when you move in together. You will have to bake bigger!!!

It was good, wasn't it?

i think the pictures look like they were taken on a chilly, dimly lit day in rural sweden-- nice effect! tell the fiance that you have to share baked goods 50/50!

Hee hee! Did you use the "macro feature" on the camera?? It's certainly artsy! :)
Anyway, I do love me some plain cake. I'm all growed up and not too fond of frosting - looking for a cake that can satisfy me all by itself! Gotta try this :)

You've had your share of camera woes recently. Well at least you had (a piece of) awesome cake for consolation! This one just calls out until there aren't even crumbs to remember it by. Thanks for baking along with me this week.

I didn't think I'd like this one, and it turned out to be dangerously good!

Methinks it's not the camera but the operator/photographer? *don't hurt me* HA HA! Omg I need that dandelion plate. Where did you get it?? TELL ME!

This was a sneaky cake, promising little and delivering way too much. I'm not sure I'd share it with visitors. Love your photo!

Manggy - yes, yes I did use the macro feature. it won't turn on except in macro mode...

CB - I got the plate from CB2. super cheap and adorable = winning combination!

Blurry = rustic. GOT IT!! Now I can just call my lack of photography skills RUSTIC! Man, who knew this photography thing was so easy? ;) But seriously, if you want to come over and teach me how to use my nikon coolpix, I'd love you forever. And I'd make you this cake ;)

hey wait a minute, a lot of my pictures look like yours... so what are you saying...? *crosses arms and taps foot* ;P

Yep, I think we all owe Nancy this week for a great pick! I would have passed right over this recipe and I would have been missing out. You'll just have to make this one again so you can enjoy a few more slices!

I've long thought this was one of the most intriguing recipes in the book, so I'm happy to hear it's good. Another to add to the must-make list!

ps These photos have a cute retro quality! Don't worry about it.

I barely have time to blog, let alone take and set up pictures...that said I think your pictures are great and you are too hard on yourself. You have a lot going on.

Those pictures are better than mine any day! Glad the cake was such a hit. I'd have a hard time sending it on the road.
